Dental implants are actually a titanium “root-like” post which is placed into your jaw. The crown part is screwed into the implant and is designed to fit the shape and contours of your existing teeth structure. The whole journey to replace a tooth with the dental implant takes between 3.5 – 9 months. More precise time frame will be provided by your dentist upon thorough analysis of all your diagnostics.

How does a single tooth implant work?

Melbourne Emergency Dental Services

Single-tooth implants can be used when one or more teeth are missing.  An implant is surgically placed in an opening that our highly experienced dentist would make in your jawbone. After the implant integrates (attaches) to your bone, it acts as a new “root” for the crown that will replace your missing tooth. A crown (cap), which is made to look like a natural tooth, is attached to the implant and fills the space left in the mouth by the missing tooth. For this procedure to work, there must be enough bone in the jaw. The bone has to be strong enough to hold and support the implant.

If there is not enough bone, it may need to be added with a procedure called bone augmentation or bone grafting. In addition, natural teeth and supporting tissues near where the implant will be placed must be in good health.

Dental Impants from eDentist in East Bentleigh

A comprehensive check of your medical history and examination of all your teeth and oral structures will be followed by radiological examination using digital x-ray and CT scan equipment. Also, the intraoral scan will be performed instead of conventional full mouth impressions. Your next appointment will be scheduled in a week time and you will be provided with the printed consent forms, detailed quote and information about your implant journey with Centre Dental. The cost of all diagnostics is $360 and is charged only after you accept the treatment plan.

During your 2nd Visit. Following careful analysis of all the diagnostics, your dentist will discuss with you the brand, size, position and other details regarding the implant placement to replace your missing tooth. If additional procedures, such as bone graft, will be indicated – your dentist will discuss them with you.

Upon your acceptance of the treatment plan and quote, you will be asked to sign the consent forms which were provided to you previously and pay the $900 to proceed with manufacturing of the surgical guide to assist with the implant placement. Your appointment for the implant placement will be booked in 2 week and sedation options will be discussed.

Single Implant versus Removable Partial Denture or Bridge

Advantages of single implants:

  • Aesthetically superior
  • Maintains jawbone integrity
  • Preserves health of adjacent teeth
  • Protects gum tissue – keeps it healthy as no pressure sores or irritation caused by dentures
  • Maintains facial profile by preventing bone loss
  • Easy maintenance and cleaning
  • Much more convenient as there is no fear of clicking sounds or denture slipping while eating or speaking

What are dental implants?

Dental implants look like natural teeth and function like natural teeth. Your dental implants are made up of three parts — the fixture, the abutment, and the prosthesis. The fixture ‘the implant’ is the part that is inserted into the jawbone. Once the fixture is placed, you need to allow time for your bone to grow around the implant and make it strong. This can take anywhere from two to six months.

The abutment is the link between the implant fixture and the tooth or denture. The fixture has an internal thread to allow an attachment to be screwed into it. The prosthesis is the final piece. This can be a single tooth, a bridge, or a removable denture. The prosthesis can be cemented, screwed into place, or securely snapped into place. Dental implants are becoming a much more common procedure and new technology means that the process is much quicker and much more affordable.

What is a single dental implant?
A single tooth implant is a single implant used to replace one missing tooth. The dental implant dentist attaches a titanium post into the jawbone of the missing tooth as a replacement for the lost tooth's root. Following that, a dental crown is attached over the titanium post.
Can you just have one tooth implant?
If you are missing a single tooth, one dental implant and a crown can replace it. A dental implant replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root.
How long does it take for a single tooth implant?
Implant Surgery

Your dentist will place the titanium implant in your jaw bone, right below the gums. This surgery usually takes about 1-2 hours for each implant being placed. After this step is complete, most dentist will wait about 3 months before the final restoration of the tooth replacement.
Can you have 2 teeth on one implant?
Dental implants are proven to be many times stronger than natural teeth. As such, one implant can often support the load of more than one tooth. Hybridge Treatment Protocols determine and establish the fewest number of dental implants that are required to support the specific number of missing teeth.
How Long Do Dental Implants Last? With regular brushing and flossing, the implant screw itself can last a lifetime, assuming the patient receives regular dental check-ups every 6 months. The crown, however, usually only lasts about 10 to 15 years before it may need a replacement due to wear and tear.
How soon after extraction can I get an implant?

Early implant placement refers to placing the implant 2-3 months after extraction, during which the bone heals, and the site is better prepared. Early implants must be placed within this timeframe since two-thirds of bone resorption occurs within the first three months after extraction.
