Melbourne's premier Dental Bonding clinic — based in Elwood.

Dental bonding is an easy and effective way to make small adjustments to teeth using a specially formulated composite material.  The dental bonding is added to the tooth to help restore small chips, fractures and cracks, as well as improving the cosmetic appearance of discoloured, shortened or misshapen teeth.

Dental bonding is appropriate for any patient. Any little imperfection can be improved upon with dental bonding. It is a pain free treatment and requires no anaesthetic or drilling.  It's particularly great because we don't remove any tooth structure. To bond, we add directly onto the tooth. We offer both composite and edge bonding treatments (explained below).

Why Get Cosmetic Bonding?

Dental Bonding is arguably the most conservative cosmetic dental procedure. It requires little to no removal of enamel to perform, unlike porcelain veneers or crowns. In addition, bonding is one of the most cost-effective treatments out there. It can also be done in as little as 30-60 minutes per tooth, and the procedure is completely painless. Unless you’re receiving bonding material to fill in a cavity, no local anesthetic is required. Finally, bonding is great because, if you properly take care of the tooth with regular brushing and flossing, it can last up to 10 years before needing to be replaced.

Cosmetic bonding is a wonderful procedure that can fix many flaws at the same time, and it in no way ruins your tooth enamel. If you have a chip, stain, or gap in your smile, ask your dentist if cosmetic bonding is right for you.

What is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is particularly good as we don’t remove any tooth structure. To bond, we add directly onto the tooth.

Restoration will last 5-6 years before it needs to be polished up or repaired in some way.

It’s a completely pain free procedure. No anaesthetic is required and no drilling is required.

We just polish the teeth and then gently add on the resin material. Finally, we then give the teeth a very high grade polish.

How Long Does Composite Bonding Last?

Dental bonding usually lasts between three and 10 years before requiring touchup treatment. This can vary for each patient depending on personal habits. For example, individuals who chew on ice or other hard objects may cause the bonding material to break. Furthermore, those who consume dark-colored foods and beverages may notice premature staining and require replacement sooner than others.

While cosmetic bonding is not permanent, it in no way ruins teeth. After a few years, the material may fade or become chipped, but that does not affect the natural enamel of your teeth itself.
You may need as little as one appointment for teeth bonding, which means you can leave our office smiling with confidence. It usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes to bond one tooth, which means you may need to schedule several visits to bond several teeth.
Dental bonding is long lasting, but not a fully permanent procedure. With proper care and maintenance, it can last for up to 5 -7 years. Some bad oral habits can damage or reduce the life span of the composite bonding, so it's important to maintain good oral hygiene and avoid risk factors.
Dental bonding is not as strong as tooth enamel. However, it is still strong enough to withstand daily pressure without breaking down. In fact, dental bonding can last for as many as 10 years with proper care.
Bonding can improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, broken, cracked, stained or have spaces between them. Bonding your front teeth actually requires minimal preparation of the tooth. Anesthesia is usually not needed unless there is an old restoration or decay present.
If you're wondering if tooth bonding looks natural, the answer is yes. The dental bonding material is specially formulated, and color matched to resemble the natural teeth. Most people won't realize you have a bonded tooth unless you decide to point it out.
Dental bonding material is fragile and can chip under certain conditions. Avoid biting your nails, chewing on pens, ice or other hard food objects. If you do notice a sharp edge on your bonded tooth or it feels odd biting down, call your dentist.
Dental bonding isn't appropriate in every situation, but it can be a quick and relatively inexpensive way to improve your smile. And feeling good about the appearance of your teeth can help you maintain good dental health.
